Abstract
Standards, used for process control, x-ray fluorescent analysis of solder, age in a manner which changes their analytical values. If uncontrolled, erroneous analyses result when newly prepared samples are analyzed using aged standards. This error can be as much as 1 wt% after eight months aging. The change in the standards is metallurgical and has an effect analogous to that of particle size on the x-ray intensities from the standards. Keywords
