Abstract
Arterial blood pressure was detd. on adult White Leghorn male and female chickens of varying ages by an indirect method. The mean systolic pressures for the females were 131.0, 139.0, 155.0, and 163.0 mm. Hg for ages 10 to 14, 19 to 26, 30 to 38, and 42 to 54 mos., respectively. The pulse pressures, based upon selected records, ranged from 22.0 to 25.0 mm. Hg for males and females. The systolic blood pressure of the male was 15 to 24% higher than that of the female, depending on the age. The increase in systolic pressure of females from 1 to 3 to 4 yrs. of age was 24%, and approx. 14% for the males during the same period. The pulse rates of females were significantly higher than those of males. Pulse rate was not causally related to body wt. or blood pressure. Keywords
