Abstract
The oscillator strengths of the absorption bands of Nd3+ acetylacetonate, benzoylacetonate, dibenzoylmethide, and thenoyltrifluoroacetonate in solvents (a) methanol, (b) methanol plus ethanol (1:3), (c) DMF, and (d) DMF plus solvent (b) (1:4) have been determined spectrophotometrically. The results are in remarkably good agreement with the theories of Judd. Only two parameters and are required to predict the oscillator strength of the absorption bands. In the case of hypersensitive transitions an additional parameter is necessary.
