Angular correlation of x rays:L−Mcascades of plutonium

Abstract
Angular correlations between L and M x rays in Pu239 obtained from a radioactive source of 32-yr Cm243 were measured using Si(Li) and Ge(Li) detectors. The measured angular-correlation coefficients A22=(8.5±1.5)×102 for the Lβ1M cascade and A22=(7.7±2.0)×102 for the Lα1+2M cascade are both significantly higher than theoretical predictions. The intensity of the Pu L1L3 x ray per L1 vacancy was found to be I(L1L3)Γ(L1)=(6.6±0.8)×102. The angular correlation coefficient of the Lα(L1L3) x-ray cascade was measured and found to be A22=(3±7)×102 and is in agreement with theoretical predictions.
