Abstract
A model containing two hybridized narrow electron bands is considered. It is shown that in such a model a metal-insulator transition occurs connected with a jump in the conductivity. Some analogies to the Lifshitz instabilities are discussed. As a possible example for such a behaviour, the properties of VO are studied both qualitatively and quantitatively. Keywords
