Abstract
A measure of the strength available for the excitation of collective pair transfer channels in heavy-ion reactions is introduced. This combines direct pair pickup and stripping processes, and is expressed in the form of an energy-weighted sum rule. Distributions of strength and of coupling matrix elements in the case of are presented.
