Abstract
The optical absorption of crystals of CoCl2 6H2O and CoBr2 6H2O was studied at room temperature, 90°x and 20°x. Some peculiarities in these spectra are reported and discussed. A tentative assignment of the observed transitions to levels predicated in terms of crystal field theory is made, obtaining a satisfactory agreement, if an appropriate set of parameters is used. Keywords
