Abstract
A case of primary extramedullary plasmacytoma (PEMP) with local amyloid deposition arising in the left parotid gland of a 78-year-old woman is described. The present case was studied with immunologic techniques with results confirming that the neoplastic cells were of monoclonal nature, producing .lambda.-light chains alone. PEMPs of the salivary glands are rare, with only 8 cases reported in the literature. The salient features of these 9 cases are summarized. Problems connected with the clinical, pathological and therapeutic aspects of PEMP with regard to the rare parotid location are discussed. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
