Abstract
A physically operational and mathematically simple definition is given for the convergence of states for a boson field. The relevant formulation of the scattering matrix is discussed. As an example, the scattering of a free Boson Field by a given linear time‐independent unquantized source is treated. It is shown that cases usually called ``infrared'' and ``ultraviolet'' catastrophes are actually convergent. Keywords
