Abstract
One oxygenator made of a nylon curtain had an oxygenating area of 2 ft2, and raised 1 1 of blood/minute from a saturation of 60% to 90%. A 2d model consisting of a solid roll of nylon cloth 14 in. high and 5 in. in diameter had a similar capacity. Both oxygenators were compact and had a high relative efficiency as defined by the ratio of oxygenating capacity to holdup. The efficiency was 3 and 2.5 for the models mentioned. The preliminary experiments on dogs with complete heart lung bypass using these models were encouraging. Keywords
