QCD fragmentation functions forBcandBc*production

Abstract
The dominant production mechanism for b¯c bound states with a large transverse momentum in high energy processes is the production of a high energy b¯ antiquark, followed by its fragmentation into the b¯c state. We calculate the fragmentation functions for the production of the S-wave states Bc and Bc* to leading order in the QCD coupling constant. The fragmentation probabilities for b¯Bc and b¯Bc* are approximately 3.8 × 104 and 5.4 × 104, while those for cBc and cBc* are smaller by two orders of magnitude.
