Abstract
An isolate of Schizophyllum commune from the mouth of a child has been used in a reappraisal of the developmental, morphological and taxonomic position of the fungus. The fungus should be assigned to the Aphyllophorales. The presence of a coloured spore-print is discussed in the light of the discovery of a sheath around the basidiospore. The presence of tubercules on the vegetative mycelium can be used as a diagnostic character in the absence of fruiting-bodies. Keywords
