A stable interferometer supporting system

Abstract
Long-term stability of interferometers is a primary requirement for many applications. The usual technique is to cement all the optical components together but this can be time consuming and costly. An alternative approach which uses a mechanical supporting system and commercially available optical components is described. It is cheap and easy to make, and provides a long-term interferometer stability of +or-1.5 nm.
