Abstract
The design principles, construction, and operation of an instrument designed for the rapid measurement of the distribution of fiber fineness of wool are described. The instrument is based on an electro-optical measurement of the amount of light scattered from a directed beam by fiber snippets. The snippets are transported through the beam dispersed in a moving liquid. The relation of the measurement parameter to fiber fineness and the problems of calibrating the instrument against the projection microscope method are discussed. Keywords
