Abstract
Liquid membrane bilayers, generated by bacteriorhodopsin on a supporting membrane, exhibit photo osmosis. The phenomenon has been shown to be a consequence of light‐induced electrical potential differences which develop across the liquid membrane bilayer due to the light‐driven proton pumping action of bacteriorhodopsin. The variations of photo osmotic velocity with wavelength, intensity of light, and proton acceptor concentrations has been studied. This publication has 17 references indexed in Scilit:
