Kaon Production in $p - p$ Collisions at Threshold

Abstract

Using a soft-kaon approximation, predictions are made of the total cross section for the process

pp \to p Λ K^{+}

near threshold. A typical result is

σ_{tot} \approx 1.5

μb at

P_{lab} = 2.40

GeV/c.
