Abstract
Two developments within our society have changed or will change the traditional physicianpatient relationship: the growing practice of the news media to report new research and developments in health-related fields, and the public's increasing conviction that as patients they have a right to know all facts about their disease. This right extends beyond an explanation of the disease, its treatment, and its prognosis, to the right to be informed accurately and promptly of new information relating to the disease.
