Abstract
Over a 6-yr. period 72 cases of typical adolescent acne in males, ranging in age from 13 to 18, were treated by the inunction of conjugated estrogenic substances in a non-greasy base, using an amt. of estrogen approx. equivalent in activity to 1.25 mg. of Na estrone sulfate daily. Within 14 days a marked improvement in skin texture and tone were noted in 90% of those treated. In patients treated 6 mos. or longer, 55% showed marked improvement, 21% showed slight improvement, and 24% failed to respond. In only one instance were the lesions exaggerated. In 23 girls receiving the same treatment only 21% responded satisfactorily and 12% showed moderate improvement. In both series no other form of therapy or diet was used. There was no evidence in the adolescent male of any deleterious effects from inunction of estrogenic hormone in the dosage employed. Keywords
