Abstract
The characteristics are investigated by calculation of the energy distribution of the electrons whose trajectories pass through the spectrometer. This work is an extension of previous calculations on the trochoidal electron monochromator on which the backscattering spectrometer is based. A comparison between certain of the predicted characteristics and those determined by experiment is made. Keywords
