Abstract
Various amounts of d- and l-alanine were fed to rice cells. The growth of cells cultured in the d-alanine-containing medium was inhibited and the degree of inhibition tended to be affected by the amount of d-alanine retained in the cells. In the l-alanine-containing medium, growth inhibition of the cells did not occur and the l-isomer may represent a suitable nitrogen source for cell growth. By repeated sub-culture in the n-alanine-containing medium, the inhibition of cell growth by the n-isomer tended to become reduced. Keywords
