Abstract
Homosporous ferns have a free-living gametophyte generation and a homothallic life cycle. These characteristics can be manipulated to study the expression of genes in the gametophyte and sporophyte. Techniques are available to estimate genetic load, mutation rate, cytoplasmic inheritance, and the expression of auxotrophic mutations.Keywords
