Abstract
35% of all starch-fermenting corynebacteria isolated by the authors during the past 5 yrs. can be distinguished from Corynebacterium diphtheriae gravis by their ability to hydrolyze urea and failure to reduce nitrate. Cultures should also be examined for trehalose fermentation and gelatin liquefaction and inoculated intradermally into protected and unprotected guinea pigs. Keywords
