Abstract
Kawakawa Tephra is identified at 22 new localities in Nelson, Marlborough, and North Canterbury, and its distribution in the South Island is reviewed. The new occurrences, reported along with previously published data, are used to construct an isopach map of the tephra distribution. Showerbedding is still present up to 500 km from the source of the eruption. The tephra thickness diminishes in a southwesterly direction and may be as much as 1 cm in southern parts of the South Island.
