Stoffwechselversuche mit höheren geradzahligen gesättigten Dicarbonsäuren

Abstract
The acids used were se-bacic, and decane-, tetradecane- and hexadecane-dicarboxylic acids, neutralized with NaHC03 and mixed with the food of dogs; a human subject took them as a dilute soln. of the disodium salts. The greater the chain length, the more completely the acid was utilized. About 7% of the decane-dicarboxylic fed was excreted unchanged in the urine. In dogs, sebacic. suberic and adipic acids were also excreted, whereas in human urine only adipic acid was found. Tetradecane- and hexadecanedicarboxylic acids were completely oxidized in man; in dogs small amts. of sebacic, suberic and adipic acids were formed. The higher acids were not stored in the body. The human subject always excreted small amts. (10-20 mg.) of p-hydroxyphenylacetic acid.
