Abstract
Measurements of the optical absorption spectrum corresponding to the transition of in MgO determine the principal parameters characterizing a dynamic Jahn-Teller (JT) effect in the excited state, including the JT energy and tunneling splitting . These results provide a successful test of the vibronic model for an -state JT ion.
