Abstract
A systematic study of neutron-proton multiplets in isotopes is presented. Energy levels, wave functions, and magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments are calculated within the framework of neutron-quasiparticle proton-hole multiplets coupled to quadrupole phonon excitations of the underlying core. The role played by the neutron-proton interaction and the collective quadrupole vibrations is discussed.
