Abstract
Summary: Numbers of topi, Damaliscus lunatus jimela (Matschie), in the Ishasha Sector of Rwenzori National Park declined by c. 50% between 1975 and 1978. Concurrently, there was a marked reduction in the home range of the population. The part played by a number of environmental factors in bringing about these changes in the population is examined. Poaching pressure, lion predation and changes in the vegetation structure in the region are described. The possible effects of these factors on the topi population are discussed. The sensitivity of the topi population, which is essentially an insular one, to such factors is emphasized and possible ways of counteracting the effects are suggested.Résumé: Le nombre de topis, Damaliscus lunatus jimela (Matschie), dans le secteur d'lshasha au Parc National de Ruwenzori a étés réduit d'environ 50% entre 1975 et 1978. Keywords
