Abstract
Epithelial mucous (i.e. goblet) cell hyperplasia is a consistent observation in the airways of the lung in both human hypersecretory diseases (Reid 1954) and in animal models of airway’s hypersecretion (Reid 1963; Lamb & Reid 1968; 1969). The specific pathogen-free (SPF) rat when exposed to an atmosphere of tobacco smoke is a well characterized and suitable animal model to study the pathogenesis of hypersecretion (Reid 1970).Keywords
