Abstract
Two groups of people, 14 highly exposed and 13 with low exposure to pesticides were examined to determine the level of urinary alphaamino acid nitrogen (αAAN) loss and the phosphate reabsorption index (PRI). Both groups were studied during the summer and the winter, the high- and low-pesticide use periods, respectively. These data obtained were analyzed to compare the seasonal differences within each group and the group differences within each season. The PRI and the urinary αAAN loss per minute did not change with season or pesticide use and no difference was found in the mean value of these measurements in the high- and low-pesticide use groups. However, the αAAN to osmolarity ratio was higher in the winter than in the summer in both groups. The difference may be due to differential effects of hydration on the urinary αAAN and solute concentrations. Keywords
