Abstract
In a double blind cross-over study, the selective alpha1-adrenoceptor blocker prazosin was given to eleven men with a non-hyperplastic prostate and with symptoms of bladder neck obstruction. During prazosin treatment maximum and average flow rates increased and residual urine was reduced. Prazosin did not change any pressure variables recorded. All patients had antegrade ejaculation and no side effects were reported. It is concluded that in selected patients with bladder outlet obstruction, prazosin may be a therapeutic alternative to bladder neck incision.
