Abstract
The afferent response to brief stretch of the gastrocnemius muscle is mediated by the largest afferent fibers at an avg. maximum velocity of 116 M./sec. There is little if any true delay at the sensient organs responding to stretch. The reflex response to brief stretch is transmitted through arcs of 2 neurons. By this evidence in addition to the fact that the distribution of 2 neuron-arc discharges accords with that of the myotatic reflex, it appears that the 2-neuron-arc pathways are reserved for the mediation of myotatic reflexes. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
