Abstract
In his thoughtful article on special education research, Iano (1986) has made several important points. While there is much to agree with in his criticism of scientific inquiry in our field, some points deserve further elaboration; and certain of Iano's solutions may be somewhat premature. This response focuses on theory development and alternatives to current research strategies in special education, along with related improvements in professional status and practice. Keywords
