Abstract
Sera from 202 Rio Grande turkeys (Melagris gallopavo intermedia) live-trapped over a 3-year period (1963-65) on the Welder Wildlife Refuge in South Texas were subjected to serologic screening for the presence of specific antibodies. Few or no serologic reactors were detected against eastern viral encephalitis, western viral encephalitis, California viral encephalitis, Venezuelan viral encephalitis, encephalomyocarditis, mycoplasmosis, and salmonellosis. The most significant serologic finding was the presence of antibodies to Newcastle disease, St. Louis viral encephalitis, ornithosis, and vesicular stomatitis. The interpretation of these serologie results and the significance of these infections in wild turkeys are discussed. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
