Abstract
The electrolyte and water content of renal cortical and medullary slices was studied in the following animals: dogs, cats, rabbits, rats, and guinea pigs. In all species studied, the water content and the Na concentration, expressed both as millequivalents per gram of dry weight or of tissue water were significantly higher in the medulla than in the cortex. Furthermore, this relationship was maintained through varying states of body hydration. The significance of this finding is discussed. This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
