Abstract
The statistical mechanical theory of the diffusion coefficients in binary liquid solutions is developed from the viewpoint of the pair space linear relations. Equations for the composition dependence of the ratios of the friction and diffusion coefficients are developed. For solutions which are regular it is found that the ratio of the two self‐diffusion coefficients is in the inverse ratio of the corresponding molar volumes. The assumptions of the theory are discussed critically. Keywords
