Abstract
The statistical mechanics for systems with a medium-dependent dispersion relation are formulated and applied to construct a model for the gluon plasma equation of state with a temperature-dependent particle mass. This simple model gives us an example of a system with a temperature-dependent effective Hamiltonian. We find that to satisfy the thermodynamical relations in these systems, standard statistical mechanics formulas have to be supplemented by special requirements. The self-consistent statistical model formulation is used to describe Monte Carlo lattice data for the thermodynamical functions of SU(2) and SU(3) gluon plasma. Keywords
