Solubility of hydrogen chloride in ethers. Measurement of vapour pressures and infra‐red studies of ether‐hydrogen chloride solutions

Abstract
Values of the solubilities of hydrogen chloride in 21 ethers over the range ‐ 75°to + 30°c at 1 atm are given. It has been found that solubilities are controlled by both inductive and steric factors. Vapour pressures of hydrogen chloride in methyl and ethyl n‐butyl ethers have been measured, and these results have been used to calculate differential heats of solution. Preliminary results are given for infra‐red shifts of ether‐hydrogen chloride complexes.
