Abstract
Adult rats with high liver reserves of vit. A, when given a diet containing massive doses of vit. A concentrate, increased the liver reserves to about 18,000 B. U. per gm., enough to satisfy the theoretical physiological requirement of the rat for about a century. On restriction to a diet free of vit. A, the aver. vit. A liver reserve fell to 400 B. U. per gm. after 12 wks. Here a condition of stable storage appeared to have been attained, since no further fall was detected after a further period of 12 wks. These results are in marked contrast with those obtained in previous expts. The possible causes of the difference are discussed. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
