Variational approach to (2+1)-dimensional QED with topological mass term

Abstract
Using a variational method worked out in a previous paper, we study (2+1)-dimensional QED with topological mass term. We find that for massive fermions the state with a constant magnetic field lies below the perturbative ground state. We investigate the possible existence of partially occupied zero modes.Keywords
