Abstract
The synthetic basic poly-alpha-amino acids, polylysine, polyornithine and polyarginine, accelerate conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin by thrombin; the acidic poly-alpha-amino acids, polyaspartic, polyglutamic and polycysteic acids, and also heparin, retard this reaction. The acidic polyaminoacids neutralize the clot accelerating activity of the basic polyaminoacids. Low concentrations of fibrinogen which were not clotted by thrombin after several hours were clotted within minutes in the presence of basic polyaminoacid. Keywords
