Abstract
A plastic chamber, the cariotron, maintains bacterial microcosm of definite dimensions in a plastic washer between stainless steel wire screens. Foodstuffs, saliva, or other substances may be introduced or withdrawn from either side. Glass electrodes, fit close to the microbial mass. Measurements of pH were made simultaneously on both sides. Microcosms vary in their ability to form acids. Drops in pH may occur on one side more rapidly than on the other. Keywords
