Abstract
"Carbonic anhydrase has been shown to play an important and essential role in erythrocytes, the kidney tubules and the shell-forming organs of birds. Despite serious attempts it has not been possible to demonstrate the necessity for the enzyme in the gastric mucosa, the pancreas and the nervous system. It may have an important function in other tissues particularly those of lower animals, but no exptl. evidence has been obtained. Much work remains to be done on the functions of the enzyme.".Keywords
