Abstract
The conc. of ketone bodies in the blood of depancreatized dogs was detd. in: a, depancreatized dogs adequately controlled with insulin and lipocaic; b, depancreatized dogs receiving adequate insulin but no lipocaic; c, depancreatized dogs receiving adequate lipocaic but inadequate insulin; d, depancreatized dogs receiving no lipocaic and inadequate insulin, and e, depancreatized dogs with fatty livers of lipocaic deficiency adequately controlled with insulin and given curative doses of lipocaic. Ketone conc. remained normal in a, b, and e. Hyper-ketonemia appeared in c and d. The blood ketones of depancreatized dogs are evidently not increased during lipocaic deficiency, as is the case during insulin deficiency. The adm. of lipocaic does not prevent or cure the hyperketonemia of insulin deficiency. The removal of fat from the liver produced by the adm. of lipocaic is not accompanied by an increase in the blood ketones. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
