Abstract
A total of thirty-six patients with amoebic proctitis were treated with 2,000 mg of tinidazole administered once daily for two days. Clinical, endoscopic and parasitological examinations were carried out on two occasions subsequently; namely five to ten days and thirty days respectively, following commencement of treatment. A cure rate of 91·1 per cent was achieved with two treatment failures, one possible re-infection and two drop-outs from the study. Side-effects were minimal with only two patients complaining of slight nausea whilst on treatment. Keywords
