Abstract
Fluoridation of communal water supplies is becoming an accepted public health measure. There is emphasis on the fact that at the present time NaF is the only fluoridating agent for which there is substantial clinical evidence to prove its dental caries-reducing ability. A review of the literature and recent laboratory expts. indicate that all F compounds may not have the same caries-reducing abilities as NaF. Attention is called to the possible role of the cation or complex anion in the dental caries preventive mechanism. Keywords
