Abstract
Raman scattering transitions have been observed to a number of excited electronic and vibronic states of the 5E ground multiplet of Mn3+ in Al2O3. The positions of these states at zero stress are not in complete agreement with recent calculations. The linear strain-coupling coefficient VE=3*104 cm-1 is estimated from the splitting of the state E orbitals under applied uniaxial stress. Keywords
