Abstract
The multipolarity of the muonic conversion observed in prompt fission induced by radiationless transitions in mu atoms is investigated theoretically. It is shown by comparison with experiment that the E1 and E2 transitions make approximately equal contributions to the observed conversion probabilities. This means that in the energy range from 3 to 6 MeV about 10% of the radiative transitions in the fragments are of E2 type. Possible manifestations of the fission dynamics in muonic conversion are discussed. Keywords
