Abstract
Energy loss spectra of ammonia recorded at low incident electron energies and high scattering angles in the 5.0-7.1 eV energy loss range allowed the observation of the first triplet state: at least two of its lowest-energy vibrational levels have been identified separately from those of the A 1A2 state. The corresponding frequency is 120 meV and is most probably related to the excitation of the nu 2 bending vibrational mode. The higher members of the triplet state progression lie very close to those of the singlet and cannot be distinguished within the resolution of the spectra (28 meV).Keywords
