Electrophoretic Fractionation of Serum Protein in Multiple Sclerosis.

Abstract
The distribution of serum proteins in 27 patients with multiple sclerosis revealed both quantitative and qualitative differences when compared with normals. The albumin component comprised 55.0% in the former and 60.2% in the latter of the total protein, while the alpha2 -globulin component in normals was 8.9% and 12.4% in the pathological cases. Since the other globulin components did not differ these values gave AG ratios in the patient group of 1.25 as compared to 1.52 in the normals. These differences were all statistically significant. The multiple sclerosis group also revealed a heterogenicity in the alpha2-globulin fraction characterized by a "double" peak in 15 of the 27 cases.
