Abstract
A review of the literature from the point of view that the scope of the respiratory quotient includes the whole process of the utilization of food excepting only digestion and absorption. It deals with the principles and methods, their application to entire organisms and isolated tissues, under conditions of normal and abnormal (diabetic) function.
